Calling Barbers and Hairdressers - Human hair can be added to compost!
Grasscycling
Simply mow your lawn and don't pick up the cuttings. Short clippings, less than an inch long, left on the lawn decompose quickly, releasing nutrients into the soil & reducing thatch and moss build-up. Result? A healthier lawn & no disposal problems! So if possible, set your lawn mower to the highest setting so it just cuts a small amount from the top.
Tip: Don't grasscycle when you lawn is very long or is wet.
Sheet composting
Spread leaves or plant remains over the soil surface in autumn. Leaving them there near plants creates an insulation blanket, protecting them over the winter. Or just turn the material into the soil and by spring your soil will be richer.
Compost tea
Soak finished compost in water (a burlap bag is useful) to make a liquid fertilizer.
Use compost tea to water transplants, garden flowers, vegetables, and container plants. Apply to soil or use half-strength as a foliar spray.
Trench or posthole composting
Bury garden residues and kitchen wastes (not meat or bones) 12 in. deep in garden.
Soil is ready for planting in 2-6 months.
Vermi-Composting
Another name for using worms to create compost
